Cooyar to Goondawindi.

Monday March 28th 2011

Big Day! Were going to stay at Walga Cr. rest area. 73klm. Nth. of Goondawindi. Too close to highway and far too dusty. So keeping within the budget (like heck). We stayed at a caravan park at Goondawindi. Morning tea at Dalby and wandered through Millmeran. Good murals on walls throughout the town.

Goondawindi to Warilda.
A good drive through this region. Decided to stay at a rest area on the Highway o'nite Pretty lookout looking out over the hills and farming valleys. Prepared dinner in the thermal cooker. Had lunch. Realising that the rest area was just a bit too close to the highway.!I could see a dirty big semi missing the bend, crashing through the not to secure guard rail straight into our" bedroom."And besides Roanldo was complaining about the "wind" on the hill, definately a city boy. So we moved down the road to another that was quite aways off the highway.Juat us in that spot. Not too bad.
WEDNESDAY March 30th.2011
What a nice morning we spent in Warialda. Speaking to some of the locals, visiting the local Vinnies store. And having an okay hair cut.
Funny little town Warialda, very narrow main street that very large trucks drive through to go either Nth. or South. Drove out to Cranky Rock. Thought we would stay here but far too expensive. No showers and $20 P/S. No thank you. Unique rock formations throughout the area, so a walk around this region was interesting. A decision made to drive to Bingara (40klm) What a great town!
An old movie theatre, the Roxy has been bought by council. Along with an adjoining milk bar called Peter's Cafe. The two establishments have been completely refurbished to their  original standard. How I would like to be in Bingara on the weekend of the grand opening of both places. Old milk bar with all the fixtures from the past. Looks great from peering through the windows. Anyway we stayed on the Gwydir river. Nice spot. With a few nice folk doing the same thing. Good butcher shop where we bought bacon and ham.

Bargara to Cooyar

Departed at approx.7.30am after saying hooray to good friends (neighbours). Drove back home within 10minutes to collect the all important mobile. Friends welcomed us back saying Gosh it doesn't seem that long ago that we said our goodbyes.
Stopped at Ban Ban Springs for smoko. Although Dearest Departed pronounces it Bam Bam!? Where are Barney and Betty I ask?
Had lunch and a good look at Nanango. Funny how country folk seem so relaxed and perhaps a little curious about new folk in their area. I was walking across the main street in Nanango as a lady pulled out from the kerb, stopped in the middle of the road and asked me. "If your lookin' for a supermarket there's one round the corner".Anyway we didn't like the Lions park as a stop over for the night. Too grubby and noisy. So we ventured on to Cooyar and stayed at Swinging Bridge Rest area behind the local pub. $5 for power, $2  for a shower at the pub and a free have a chat from the pommy man who pulled up next to us. John and wife Donna, nice folk and their even nicer young beagle pup, Maddie.
Went to bed with a sheet over us woke up early hours rather cold. Scratched around for the doonas etc.
MONDAY:- Cooyar to Goondiwindi........yes you read it correctly! Took our time at first as we were going to have a look at a camp site at Waga Creek. Not to be, it was right on the side of the Gore Hwy. very dusty and of course noisy from big rigs travelling constantly. Not much of anything offering along this road at all so we pressed on and are now in a caravan park at G'Windi ($25p). Not what we had planned but you get that. We did spend sometime at Millmerran, a nice town.
Tomorrow we think we will have a good look around G'Windi and take it easier for the rest of the week???? We will head for Moree, Warialda, Barraba. There seem to be several free camps in that region. As you know Stockys. Sign off for now....nite nite.
